╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Red or Black is a modified version of the game called Trente Et
Quarante (also known as Rouge et Noir). Rules for this game are as explained
in the book titled According To Hoyle written by Richard L. Frey with several
modifications thrown in for more excitement.
This is a tournament-style gambling door where players try to achieve
the highest monthly score possible. Players start out with $1000 to play
with. If a player loses all his money, play is ended for that day and the
house will then spot the player another $1000 when he logs in on any day
after that.
At the end of each month, the player with the highest score is
declared the winner. The top-three scoring players are recorded and displayed
to players throughout the following month.

│░░░░░░ HOW TO PLAY ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
In this game, played at Monte Carlo and at other French gambling
casinos, six packs of 52 cards are shuffled together and dealt by the house.
Before the deal begins, a player may bet on red (rouge), black (noir),
couleur (color) or inverse. These bets are then decided as follows:
Aces count 1 each, face cards and tens count 10 each, every other
card counts its index value. The dealer lays out a row of cards, announcing
the cumulative total of the spots with each card dealt, until the total is 31
or more. This row represents black.
Below the first row a second is then dealt in the same way,
representing red.
A bet on black or red wins if the row of that designation counts
nearer to 31 and pays off at 2 to 1. An exact hand of 31 pays off at 3 to 1.
A bet on couleur (color) wins if the first card dealt is of the color
designating the winning row, whereas if this card is of opposite color a bet
on inverse wins.
If both rows count the same, it is a 'refait' (tie), and bets are
called off, except when there is a refait at 31. This represents the house's
advantage; for in this case, the bank takes half of everything that has been
bet (the player retains half of his bet).
Once used, cards are set aside and there is no reshuffling until
there are less than 20 cards remaining in the deck.

│░░░░░░ THE SELECTION MENU ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The main selection menu commands offer 4 choices to the player. They
are "Delay Speed", "Play", "Help" and "Quit".
Delay Speed: Select this option if you would like to change the
delay time used when dealing the cards. Valid settings are 50 to 1500. 50
is the fastest (least delay) and 1500 is the slowest (longest delay). A
default value of 1000 is initially set when a new player enters the game.
Play: Select this option to begin playing. Cards are shuffled on
first play and reshuffled only when necessary after that. Each coup, or
hand counts as one turn. Players may take up to a predetermined number of
turns per day as defined by the System Operator.
After selecting the Play option, players are prompted for the
amount to wager. Players may enter any value between $1 and a predetermined
value as defined by the System Operator. Next, the player is asked how he
wishes to bet. Valid choices are Red, Black, Couleur (color) or Inverse as
explained above.
Help: Select this option to display this help file (you have
obviously already figured this one out).
Quit: Select this option to end the game and return to the BBS.
Your current settings will be saved automatically.

╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Red Or Black runs great as a type 7 door on RemoteAccess and QuickBBS. All
file I/O uses record locking and this door will run fine on two nodes
simultaneously. All you need to do is pass some command line parameters
to the program.
These are:
/Tn - This specifies the maximum number of games a player may play per day.
This should be a number between 1 and 99. If it's not in this range,
it will default to 5.
/Bn - This specifies the maximum amount that players may bet per coup (or
hand). If omitted, the default value is $10,000.
/Mn - This specifies the maximum number of make up days allowed per day.
Players may not be able to call in and play every day. So, to enable
players to keep up and be competitive, the Sysop can allow players
to have 'n' make up days per day. This should be a value between 1
and 5. If it's not in this range, it will default to 3.
Example: If I allow 3 make up days per day, and 5 games per day, a
player can:
- Call in on the 5th and play his 5 games for that day.
- Use a up to 3 make up days and play 5 games for each make up day
that he uses.
/Pn - This specifies the path to DORINFOx.DEF or DOOR.SYS. This is where
Red Or Black will look for the drop file. If a trailing backslash is
not specified, one will be added. NOTE: To avoid a possible
directory error, this parameter should not be omitted.
/D - This parameter specifies that a RemoteAccess or GAP (PCBoard) DOOR.SYS
drop file should be used instead of a DORINFOx.DEF drop file. This
file should reside in the directory path specified by the /P
parameter. This parameter is optional.
Examples:
ROB.EXE /t7 /m2 /b25000 /pC:\RA\ 7 games per day.
2 make up days per day.
DORINFO1.DEF can be found in C:\RA\
directory.
ROB.EXE /m5 /p\RA\ 5 games per day (default).
5 make up days per day.
$10,000 is maximum bet (default).
DORINFO1.DEF can be found in \RA\
directory.
ROB.EXE /pC:\RA\ /D 5 games per day (default).
3 make up days per game (default).
DOOR.SYS can be found in C:\RA\
directory. Use DOOR.SYS instead of
DORINFO1.DEF. No need to worry about
the format. Red Or Black will
automatically determine if a
RemoteAccess or PCBoard DOOR.SYS is
being used.
NOTE: If you are running this program under PCBoard, you may have to load
a FOSSIL driver from a batch file before the game is run, and unload
it when the game is finished and before control is returned to the
BBS. Or, keep a FOSSIL driver installed.
Red Or Black can be run in the BBS system directory or in a directory of its
own. If you use a separate subdirectory, you will need to use a batch file.
Here is an example type 7 batch file:
Type 7 command line:
*C /c \RA\GOROB.BAT
GOROB.BAT:
Cd \RA\REDBLACK
ROB /t7 /m3 /pC:\RA\
Cd \RA
Or, if you are running Red Or Black from the BBS system directory, no batch
file is needed:
Type 7 command line:
ROB.EXE /t10 /m3 /pC:\RA\
That's all there is to installing the Red Or Black door. There is no setup
program needed.
